| Wednesday, November 11, 2009 Final Score: Phoenix 124, New Orleans 104 Hornets Post Game Quotes
On tonight’s game: “I thought Phoenix was much more aggressive, much more physical than we were. They just beat us down on the boards, offensively, everything. And I don’t look at them as a physical basketball team. When you get the reputation around the league of being a bit of a soft team, teams don’t’ come at you. And I thought that’s what they did, they came out more aggressive on both ends of the floor. I thought we came in and took a major step backward in all areas; from the defensive end, from a physical standpoint, from a pick and roll defense and our blocking out was just terrible. They took advantage of every opportunity. ”
On tonight’s game: “Rebounding was in issue for us tonight, they got a lot of offensive rebounds early in the game and that’s an offensive powerhouse over there. You’ve got to give them one shot and try to make them miss and if you give them multiple opportunities, obviously they’re going to score.” On Phoenix this season v. last season: “They’re a totally different team. I think they’re like the Phoenix Suns of my rookie year and my second year in the league. I give them a lot of credit. They did a great job putting those pieces back together. Add Channing Frye as the 5 and keep the floor spaced. Now Amar’e is rolling and you help with the roll and they got shooters.”
On tonight’s game: “They got on us early and we were just trying to catch up all night. It’s hard to win a game doing that, especially against a team as good as that. They do an excellent job spreading the floor and you have to commend them on how they play and they did a great job tonight. ” Suns Post Game Quotes
“It was a great win for us. I thought we played about as well as we could have the first half. Offensively I thought we did a good job of staying in attack mode. We got people and shots in the spots that we wanted to and they shot them in. I was real proud of the way we played the first half. I thought we did a good job defensively throughout the game. We had a couple of lapses here and there but for the most part we had decided that we had to make Chris (Paul) beat us with jump shots, and he made some of them. But I think that the way he hurts you most is when he’s getting in the lane and he’s making a few baskets and he’s getting those guys open for threes that’s where you really run into trouble with this team. I think they’re a quality team and they’re struggling right now but I think that they’ll find themselves. Byron Scott does a good job with them and they’ve got David West and Chris Paul and two All Star players so I wouldn’t count those guys out yet.”
On being able to have an extended rest prior to the Lakers game: “It’s great – the Lakers are on a three day rest and at home, waiting on us, so tonight we were able to get in and play great basketball for the first three quarters and the starters had a chance to rest. The second unit played great and got the win for us, so it felt good – we got a chance to really rest up and ice there in the fourth quarter.” On rebounding: “I think for the most part we’re playing well as a team – we’re doing a great job on the boards. Some nights you’re going to have big numbers on the rebounds, personally, and other nights the team will just outrebound the other team and that’s what we’ve done so far this season – we are rebounding well as a unit and if we keep that going, we’ll be in good shape.”
On tomorrow’s game against the Lakers: “Tomorrow night is going to be a good game – we’re leading the West in wins and so it’s definitely going to be a challenge for us tomorrow, coming off a back-to-back, but I think it’s going to be an exciting game.” On the team’s play: “I think we can play even better – we did a lot of things right on both ends of the floor, but the funny thing is I don’t even think we’re running yet. So once we get to that where we’re just up and down and going like we normally do, we’ll be pretty good.” On his resurgence with the style of play: “I love the style – I was successful with it in Golden State and coming back to it this year and going back to open court running and sharing the ball and quick threes – it’s right up my alley and it’s the type of game I love playing.” |
