Team Programs
NBA teams maintain a range of creative programs geared to give back to their communities. Whether it’s engaging youth in various Read to Achieve incentive platforms or fun fitness programs, coordinating environmentally friendly projects, or providing memorable in-arena experiences to deserving local heroes, NBA teams actively participate in local community outreach. Through partnerships with various community and non-profit organizations, teams capitalize on their ability to highlight different issues and help a diverse array of people. CharitaBulls
In 1987, the Bulls founded a non-profit organization to aid in our civic tasks, especially where children are concerned. CharitaBulls was formed with the mission to enhance the lives of Chicago’s youth by actively creating and supporting educational, recreational and social programs. Over the years, CharitaBulls has contributed tens of millions of dollars for a variety of worthy causes in the Chicago area.
New York Knicks Poetry Slam
The Knicks Poetry Slam program gives away over $350,000 in grants, scholarships and prizes while reaching over 10,000 students through school visits, poetry slam open auditions, a college fair, workshops and poetry slams. The Knicks Poetry Slam program provides an opportunity for high school students to express themselves through the written and spoken word and compete.
Harvest Dinner
Executed entirely through volunteer efforts of Trail Blazers staff, players, coaches, community partners, local media members and corporate partners, Harvest Dinner is available exclusively to clients of local organizations and agencies that serve homeless and critically low-income individuals and families.
Starting Five Program
The Timberwolves FastBreak Foundation is proud to begin the eighth season of the Read to Achieve Starting Five program. During the past seven seasons, students from more than 1,000 schools in the Twin Cities area have read almost nine million pages through the Read to Achieve Starting Five program.
Jr. Jazz Youth Basketball
Started in 1983, Jr. Jazz is the longest-running youth basketball league in the NBA. Nearly 60,000 youth from Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, Arizona and Montana participate in the program annually. Jr. Jazz emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork and fundamental basketball skills. Each Jazz player participates in one to two Jr. Jazz clinics per year, where they speak to youth and conduct basketball clinics.
Community Care Cruiser
The Presbyterian Hospital Community Care Cruiser, supported by the Bobcats, is a 40-foot recreational vehicle converted into a mobile clinic that brings basic health care, screenings, immunizations and counseling to underserved communities across the Charlotte-area.
Rolling Thunder Book Bus
Part of the Thunder’s Read to Achieve initiative, presented by American Fidelity Assurance Company, the Book Bus travels to schools and community events, providing free books to children ages 5 – 15. Since its launch in February 2009, the Book Bus has distributed more than 10,000 books to pre-K-9th grade readers.
Sixers Neighborhood Basketball League
The Sixers Neighborhood Basketball League (SNBL), presented by Cricket Wireless, is a youth recreation league conducted in conjunction with the Philadelphia Department of Recreation. SNBL offers girls and boys an opportunity to participate in an organized basketball league at one of the 37 participating Department of Recreation facilities throughout Philadelphia.
